Age 13

As a young African American woman, I aspire to be like Katherine Johnson because she was a pioneer in the math and science that made space exploration possible. She paved the way for women and African Americans who had been excluded from this emerging field of science. As a mathematician, she calculated launch windows, trajectories, and emergency back up paths for many space flights including Project Mercury and the Apollo Program. As an aspiring young woman in the tech field, she is a great inspiration to me. I hope to show other girls my age that they can do amazing things to have an impact for humanity and the planet through science by creating energy, conserving resources and curing diseases. Learning to code and studying computer science is a great place to start to follow in her footsteps and build a love for math and science.
